HeartKids Urgently Request ICU Beds

In Victoria state, HeartKids named Chrysoula Petras, Kevin Innes, Makyla Tyrrell, Brodie Guy, Lincoln, Catlin and Julian Michielin had 19 operations been cancelled since June.

They Royal Children’s Hospital has the world’s best heart surgeons and treatments, but cancelled estimate 60 heart operations in last month.

The state Government was demanded to fund 10 more intensive-care beds, recruit and train nurses immediately by the HeartKids families.

Eight-month-old Lincoln was transferred in rush to the hospital on Sunday night and booked for a major operation this morning.

One HeartKid’s mother, Penny Bruton said: “We have the best surgeons you can get and they just can’t do what they are supposed to be doing.”

Ms. Bruton wasn’t surprised when hospital called her the operation was off again.

Last month, a 10-day-old boy was in the same situation and sent interstate because the pediatric intensive care beds were full in all the states.

The Royal Hospital met emergency cases which have forced to cancel scheduled operations in regards to the problem was finding intensive care nurses to staff beds.

The hospital’s chief of surgery, Dr Leo Donnan said: “Emergency cases are having take precedence, we are trying to ensure there is no one is left behind or child at risk.”

Health Minister Daniel Andrews’ spokesman, Jason Frenkel said: “We are building a brand new $1 billion children hospital with a capacity treating 35,000 patients every year.

“There will be an extra 21 ICU beds at the new Royal Children’s Hospital,” he said.
